THE 2004 ASIAN PGA TOUR QUALIFYING SCHOOL

Final Stage (72 holes scheduled) 14th - 17th January 2004

1. FORMAT

The School will be conducted in two stages of stroke play:

(A) QUALIFYING SCHOOL STAGE 1 (72 holes scheduled) 7th - 10th January 2004

For all applicants except those who are automatically exempt into the Final Stage

Stage 1 will be conducted on 7th - 10th January 2004 at the following venue:

Palm Resort Golf & Country Club, Senai, Johor, Malaysia

Applicants are advised that Sunday, 11th January may be used as a full playing day. All players in Stage 1 will play 18 holes on the Allamanda Course and another 18 holes on the Cempaka Course. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the leading 140 players + ties who will go forward to contest the final 36 holes over the Cempaka Course.

The number of players qualifying to proceed to the Final Stage will be announced prior to 1st round. It will not be less than 40.

(B) QUALIFYING SCHOOL FINAL STAGE (72 holes scheduled) 14th - 17th January

The Qualifying School Final Stage will be conducted on 14th - 17th January 2004 at:

Palm Resort Golf & Country Club, Senai, Johor, Malaysia

The following players are exempt from Stage 1 and eligible for the Final Stage.

  1. Past Order of Merit Winners not otherwise exempt on the Asian PGA Tour.
  2. Past Tournament winners not otherwise exempt on the Asian PGA Tour.
  3. Past winners of the Asian PGA Tour Qualifying School from 1999 - 2003 not otherwise exempt.
  4. Players finishing in 61st - 120th position and those tying in 120th position where applicable on the Asian PGA Tour Final Order of Merit 2003.
  5. 60 players nominated by NPGA's that are Category A (i) Full Country Members.
  6. The leading 30 players not otherwise exempt and within the top 50 as at 16th December 2003 on the US PGA or JGTO or European Tour Order of Merit.
  7. The leading 20 players not otherwise exempt and within the top 30 as at 16th December 2003 on the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit.
  8. The leading 5 players not otherwise exempt and within the top 30 on the 2002/2003 final Southern Africa (Sunshine) Tour Order of Merit.
  9. The leading 3 players not otherwise exempt and within the top 10 as at 16th December 2003 on the Nationwide Tour.
  10. The leading player not otherwise exempt and within the top 10 as at 16th December 2003 on the Canadian Tour Order of Merit.
  11. The leading player not otherwise exempt and within the top 10 as at 16th December 2003 on the Tour de las Americas Order of Merit.
  12. Players in the 21st to 40th position from the Asian PGA's Career Money List as at 16th December 2003 who are otherwise not exempt.
  13. Nominations of the Asian PGA Board at their absolute discretion.

The Final Stage is scheduled to be played over 72 holes at the Cempaka Course of the Sofitel Palm Resort Golf & Country Club. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the leading 80 players and ties who will play an additional 36 holes. At the conclusion of 72 holes, the leading 40 players shall be ranked in Category 14. With the exception of a play off for the 1st and the 40th position, all other positions will be decided by a card play of. All other players participating in the Final Stage shall be ranked in Category 16 on the 2004 season subject to the categories remaining the same for the 2004 season. All players in Category 14 will be re-ranked on 31st May and 18th October 2004. Players are advised that Sunday, 18th January may be used as a full playing day.

2. ELIGIBILITY FOR ENTRY

(a) All male professional golfers.
(b) All male amateur golfers with a handicap of 2 under the Handicapping Scheme adopted by the recognised authority controlling golf in the country from which they elect to enter.

Note: The rule regarding amateurs competing in a qualifying competition for a professional tour has been amended by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews which comes into effect from 1st September 2002 and it states:

"If an Amateur golfer must compete in one or more qualifying competitions in order to be eligible for membership of a Professional Tour, he may enter and play in such qualifying competitions without forfeiting his Amateur Status, provided, in advance of play and in writing, he waives his right to any prize money in the competition."

3. ENTRY FEES

US$1200 for Stage 1
US$ 750 for Final Stage

Banker's drafts in US Dollars will be taken. Where other forms of payment are used and bank charges are incurred they must be borne by the applicant. Bank transfers are acceptable. Details as follows:

4. CLOSING DATES

All entries must be received by Asian PGA by 17th December 2003.

5. WITHDRAWALS

All withdrawals must be notified to the Asian PGA Tour Entries Department.

If a player withdraws prior to the closing date, his entry fee will be refunded in full.

If a player withdraws after the closing date without competing, his entry fee will be refunded but a charge of US$300.00 will be levied.

If a player is absent on the tee without notification, no refund will be given and he may face disciplinary action subject to circumstances. Once an entrant has teed off refund of entry is not possible.

6. REGISTRATION

All Stage 1 competitors must register in person at the tournament office no later than 1700hrs on Monday, 5th January 2004.

All Final Stage competitors must register in person at the tournament office no later than 1700hrs on Monday, 12th January 2004.

8. INFORMATION

The Asian PGA Tour reserves the right to change or amend the above format and schedule of play and also to reject application for entry at any time (including during Stage 1 or Final Stage). Conduct unbecoming of a professional or non-competitive performance including the current or a previous Qualifying School can be a basis for the rejection of the application to enter.
